Diana Dowdy is a Certified Nurse-Midwife and Registered OB/GYN Sonographer practicing in Huntsville Alabama. She holds a Master's of Nursing from Emory University in Atlanta and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is a Fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She directs the company WPOCUS Consulting, providing a curriculum for ob/gyn POCUS for simplified, customized, and standardized entry-level education. She has \over 20 years of experience in training of POCUS in low and middle-income countries for midwives and obstetric providers of all levels. She has had over 45 years of clinical experience and continues PRN work in Huntsville. She has volunteered with RAD-AID International for over 9 years, with midwifery projects in Kenya and Grenada, West Indies. She has served as Chair of the Midwifery Ultrasound Exam Committee with Inteliuos/ARDMS and currently consults on their international programs. She holds adjunct faculty status at the University of Nairobi School of Nursing,and is engaged with assisting the Kenyan academic system in establishing a country-wide standard curriculum for midwives performing ultrasound.
She has a passion for helping midwives and ob providers in underserved areas have access to quality and standardized education, adapted to local and regional scopes of practice. She teaches OBGYN POCUS at InnovatED Ultrasound in Nashville, TN, where she developed the accredited program that is attended by midwives, NPs, and physicians. She serves as adjoint faculty at Vanderbilt University, where she taught in both the graduate midwifery and graduate women's health nurse-practitioner program for 3 years.
She has been a speaker for national and international events, most recently at the Maternal Health Summit in 2022 held in Nairobi, Kenya, and at RAD-AID Conference 2024 in Washington, DC. She has provided webinars for SDMS, and other national organizations, related to midwifery and women's health.
