Currently, Dr. Alexander Herrera is a point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) fellow at Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU). He is also enrolled in the OHSU Educational Scholars Program. Board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine, Dr. Herrera is passionate about medical education, sports medicine, and POCUS. His current scholarly focus is on standardizing POCUS workflows.
Previously, Dr. Herrera served as the Course Director for the Primary Care Track at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. He also held the position of Assistant Director for the Family Medicine Clerkship and actively participated in the development of Maryland's health workforce pathways as a physician lead in Maryland AHEC. During his sports fellowship, Dr. Herrera served as a team doctor for the Las Vegas Lights (USL) and University of California, Riverside. In residency, he was recognized with the Advocacy award from the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors in 2020 for his contributions to his clinic in Houston. As an attending physician and preceptor, Dr. Herrera has mentored numerous medical students and residents.
Outside of work, Dr. Herrera says that he "exercises to prevent injury, tries not to forget to water his plants, thinks he is good at snowboarding, can really appreciate all types of music, and eats everything."
