Female Pelvic Floor Ultrasound - Protocol, Anatomy, and Pathology Using 2D and 3D Endovaginal Techniques

What is that vaginal mass? Does your patient need pelvic floor physical therapy or urogynecology? Learn how to perform the AIUM protocol on the female pelvic floor! Using a special endovaginal transducer with linear, side-fire technology, a full 360 degree volume of the superficial female pelvis can be obtained. This allows for visualization of the levator ani muscles, perineum, vaginal canal, anal canal, urethra, and any associated pathologies.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the indications for a pelvic floor ultrasound.
  • Describe the pelvic floor ultrasound exam, including the technology necessary and what anatomy can be visualized.
  • List and describe the various types of pathology that can be seen on a pelvic floor ultrasound, including prolapse, cysts and masses, foreign bodies, and trauma (including muscular) from childbirth.
