Shear Wave Elastography in MSK Ultrasound: From Research to Practical Applications

The use of shear-wave elastography for MSK ultrasound research has grown exponentially in the last 2 decades; however several technical factors have previously limited mainstream utilization in clinical settings. The presenters will discuss the principles and limitations of SWE in MSK ultrasound as well as current uses in clinical practice and research applications.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe basic principles of shear wave elastography and how they apply to musculoskeletal structures
  • Recognize pitfalls and limitations in shear wave elastography use for evaluation of musculoskeletal structures
  • Understand current uses of shear wave elastography in clinical practical applications and musculoskeletal research
