This course is a full day course providing an immersive didactic experience in Detailed First Trimester Ultrasound (DFTU) and placental assessment. The clinical utility and application of the DFTU will be presented. Participants will become familiar with imaging guidelines and image optimization. Comprehensive didactics of various organ system anomalies will be presented including the nuances associated with embryologic development. The genetic evaluation of the fetus with a finding will be addressed.

Learning Objectives:

Evaluate the clinical application of Detailed First Trimester Ultrasound (DFTU) as a screening tool, including its role in identifying fetal and placental abnormalities, and the significance of following a standardized imaging protocol with both required and optional components.
Develop an understanding of major organ system pathology and the influence of embryology on the detection of anomalies in the first trimester, alongside an awareness of genetic evaluation, including residual risk considerations in the context of cell-free DNA screening.
Acknowledge the importance of patient perspective and counseling in DFTU, while discussing contemporary challenges to the implementation of standardized DFTU screening in clinical practice.
